Classified Ads Bring New Revenue to Local TV Stations

Santa Barbara, CA—Classified Concepts, a leading provider of new revenue products and solutions for newspapers, today introduced its Broadcast Edition. Now television stations have access to a revenue stream that has previously only been enjoyed by newspapers. Classified Concepts Broadcast Edition is based on a successful revenue-generating program which is producing over $8 million annually in new revenue for 28 newspapers.

Classified Concepts' turnkey solution is launched with no out-of-pocket costs to the station, drives traffic to local stations' Web sites and allows viewers to post location based listings such as open houses, rental properties and garage sales on interactive maps for a nominal fee. This program allows a station to generate from $200 thousand to $400 thousand per year of non-spot new revenue. Classified Concepts Broadcast Edition is innovative in that it effectively develops a new revenue stream from a station's viewing audience instead of strictly from businesses purchasing airtime to advertise their goods and services.

Web sites are taking on a bigger role in the traditional media's fight against online competition for classified ad dollars. With Classified Concepts Broadcast Edition, TV stations benefit from this trend as well as leverage their local advantage to capitalize on the changing nature of classified advertising. Providing on-air ad visibility is something the major online media forces, such as Google and Craigslist, cannot offer.

"The program is structured to make participation extremely easy for stations," said Carl Schulhof, a broadcast industry veteran who developed the new service with Classified Concepts. "There are no set-up fees involved and all of the listings and transactions are taken care of by Classified Concepts. The most exciting thing about the program is that it allows stations to generate new revenue that is not directly tied in to giving up valuable spot inventory."
